Barnard Castle is a Historic Market town set in the Heart of Teesdale, County Durham, England. It is named after the castle around which it grew and known to locals as "Barney". It is a popular tourist destination, home to The Bowes Museum, a 19th Century French-style Chateau which has the best collection of European fine and decorative arts in the North of England, famous for it's 18th century Silver Swan automaton. The town centre is thriving with many local independent shops, galleries and eateries.
Teesdale is an area of outstanding natural beauty renowned for it's breath taking views, wild flowers and wildlife. Areas of interest include Raby Castle, High Force, Eggleston Hall Gardens and Eggleston Abbey.
